Woofstock '09 rescue Kennebec Valley Shetland Sheepdog Rescue and Club and vendors Naomi Howe and Steve Seekins will be co-hosting Canine Good Citizen Testing at Maine's biggest pet festival. According to the American Kennel Club website, akc.org, The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. The tests will be given throughout the day at WOOFSTOCK '09. For more information on the Canine Good Citizen program, please visit www.akc.org/events/cgc/program.cfm.
The Canine Citizen Test is just one of many events taking place that day, including a rabies clinic, seminars and demonstrations, microchipping, a Family Fun Dog Show and a Parade of Breeds.
Woofstock will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Round Top Farm at the Damariscotta River Association from 9:30am-3pm. Woofstock is a joint venture between The Animal House and the Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club and is a fundraiser benefitting area shelters and rescues and Rotary Charities.
