Gali was a beautiful, sensitive and caring Australian Shepherd therapy dog who served for nine years as part of the lead team at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fairfax INOVA Hospital for Women and Children, Northern Virginia Mental Health, and over 12 schools in Fairfax, VA. She began her career in AKC obedience, which was really a ploy to teach her owner, Naomi, how to train dogs. She had a wicked sense of humor, and often had her sudience in stiches, although she did manage to get several "degrees" to justify her efforts. Gali loved water, hiking, playing with her Scottish Deerhound and Shih Tzu family, and hanging around her human friends of all ages and walks of life. She loved having her paws tickled, wading in any body of water, and being held tightly. After moving to Clark Island Maine in 2005, Gali joined her companion Naomi Howe at the day treatment programs in MSAD 50, and Five Town CSD in Camden, where she gave love and caring, as well as a compassionate ear to the the many students she was devoted to. She began the READ program at Jackson Memorial Library in Tenant's Harbor in 2006, and the program at Rockland Library in 2008. Despite neurological challenges that escalated in the last few months and years, she remained courageous and willing to the end. Last week she put on her last obedience performance for the Janus Project in Rockland, and calmly let it be known she was ready to move on. She died peacefully and with dignity on Wednesday, April 15th at Dr. Daniel Dowling's Lakeside Veterinary Hospital, with Naomi Howe and Steve Seekins at her side. She leaves a legacy of incredible love, devotion, and dedication. We will all miss her energy, spirit and huge heart.
