On Sunday, March 29th- a cold, rainy, and wind driven morning- approximately fifty brave hearts gathered at the ocean’s edge in Reid State Park, in Georgetown to support the work of Coastal Humane Society. Both young and “mature” shed layers of winter clothing to dash into the frosty winter-chilled ocean. White capped waves slapped these hearty adventurers back as they ran to greet the tide. Dippers dipped. Onlookers applauded and yelled encouragement. Supporters waited with fuzzy towels and blankets. All sacrificed physical comfort to help CHS animals.

Long before March 29th dippers had been gathering pledges to raise money for the care of animals at the shelter. Over $3,000 was raised by these dedicated people for the love of the animals. Coastal Humane Society, and the animals in its care, are grateful for the support of so many in our community. We thank our dippers and pledge supporters. We also thank all those businesses and media friends who helped get the word out with a blitz of publicity. Thank you to the Georgetown Fire Department and Reid State Park personnel for being on safety standby. Donations gathered at this year’s event will be used for the welfare and medical needs of those animals residing in the care of the Coastal Humane Society until they are adopted into loving homes.

Donations to support the plunge are still welcome and can be made to: Coastal Humane Society; 30 Range Rd., Brunswick, ME 04011

Or donated via Paypal at our website: www.CoastalHumaneSociety.org
