Editor:

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you that we lost Maggie on Saturday (“A Boy’s First Dog,” Downeast Dog News, February 2009). It has been very difficult without her, and it is going to take a long time to fill the void. She really was an amazing dog. You don’t realize how much a part of your life dogs become until they are gone.

We desperately miss the jingle of her collar, the clicking of her nails on the floor and her sweet little face looking up at us. I keep thinking she is going to poke her head around the corner at any minute. She had us on such a routine for 17 years, and we are truly lost without her.

It meant the world to Paul and me that he had the opportunity to share how special Maggie was, and the emotions she evoked in us. I greatly appreciate the wonderful compliment you paid to Paul by putting his tribute to Maggie on the front page, and your wonderful comments about his writing ability. It is so special to us to look at the article of her, and we will cherish it always. You did a beautiful job. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Marika Savoy
